Kinsey Studios Lesson Policies & Procedures

  1. Calendar – We will have lessons weekly from August 21st to May 31st. We consider it two separate semesters with a Fall (ending at Christmas Recital) and a spring (ending May 31st) We have an optional summer camp in the summer, but otherwise it is a break until August. You do not have to do anything to reserve your slot for each new semester, however, our policy is that if you are leaving us during the middle of a semester that you give us a 3-week advance notice so as to advertise and fill your slot mid-semester. Your final bill will reflect this policy.

  1. Tuition.  Monthly tuition payments will be required at the first lesson of each month. Monthly tuition is $100 a month from September-May. August is only a half month of lessons so it is $50 for the ½ month. It is a monthly tuition whether you can attend all lessons or not. Students will be scheduled for one 30-minute lesson per week every month unless more time is requested. Cash, check, VenMo to Kristi-Kinsey, and Paypal Friend to Friend (kristikinsey@gmail.com) are accepted forms of payment. An invoice will be sent via email (Square) at the end of each month for next month’s tuition.

  1. Late Payment Fee. Payment is due at the BEGINNING of each month in full for the month. If this is not paid by the 7th of the current month, there will be a $10 late fee added to the tuition balance. If it is still not paid after the 15th of the month no more lessons will be taught until payment (including late fee) is received.

  1. Attendance Policy.  We require a 24-hour advanced notice for a possible re-schedule, except in the case of illness / emergency. Re-schedules will only be available if there is an opening in the operating hours of studios. We will only accommodate 1 make up each semester, after that there is no more make-ups provided. We also try to offer virtual lessons to anyone not able to attend in person due to illness of themselves or family. Teachers will not be asked to reschedule their personal time for missed lessons. No refunds will be made for missed lessons.

  1. Pricing for Studio Supplies.  Piano lessons use two different books depending on your student’s skill level. We use Bastien Piano Basics and Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber.

  1. Equipment Policy. The student must own or have constant access to a tuned, fully functional acoustic piano OR 88-key, weighted, touch-sensitive digital piano with a pedal.

  1. Lesson Etiquette. We typically prefer that the parent sit outside of the studio during the lesson. However, if the student desires to have their parent in the room that is acceptable at any time. Please limit the coming and going into the studio to only the beginning and end of the session to avoid distraction. Cell phones must remain on silent and no calls are to be made inside the studio. Siblings are not allowed into the studio or homes of the teachers.

  1. Studio Etiquette. Please do not park on the grass of our teacher’s homes or blocking their mailbox. You may park on their driveway or in the street. No bathrooms are available for studio families. Please remember for the rest of the Teacher’s family – that is their private homes are they are still going about their personal lives.

  1. Lesson Termination Policy.  This policy may seem a little harsh, but it is one of the most important policies to include.   If a student does not seem to be progressing well or isn’t wanting to be a part of the lessons (isn’t practicing regularly, being disrespectful, etc), we reserve the right to terminate lessons.  Hopefully, this does not happen ever!
